Sunil (Sunny) Bhat
Sunil is an Osteopathic Physician whose journey into health started with, and has always been strongly directed by, the life sciences of Yoga and Ayurveda. Starting out taking his first yoga classes in 2007 at a rock gym in Nashville hoping to stay in shape for ski season, he soon realized that there was much more to yoga than functional strength. Catching glimpses of the unlocking potential of yoga for the body, mind and spirit, after 6 months of regular practice hedecided to dig deeper with a 200 hr YTT in vinyasa yoga. His teachers Tom and Daphne Larkin instilled in him a strong vinyasa practice rooted deeply in ashtanga and iyengar traditions, which continue to be the basis of his personal practice and led classes today. As he became more interested in ayurveda as a biologic science, he learned of Osteopathy by speaking to one of the seasoned students at the yoga studio he trained at. After a trip to India to spend a month at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, and a month studying ayurveda in Kerala, he was encouraged by his eastern mentors to pursue an education in western medicine: Osteopathy was the obvious solution. Sunil has taught yoga in Nashville and Tahoe City, then continued to lead classes while in medical school in Vallejo CA, and residency in Tacoma, WA. After completing his fellowship in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine in Corvallis, OR in 2018, he opened a private practice in San Mateo and now calls Pacifica home.
