Ocean Yoga Wellness

Ocean Yoga believes that life is an athletic event. The moment you wake up in the morning, the game begins. We are all athletes on this planet, in every aspect of our daily lives. Whether you work in an office, a construction site, or in a busy home, every day is filled with physical events that stress our bodies. Self-care is essential to maintaining a healthy, well-balanced life.

In order to live a life that is free of physical pain, we believe that everyone should have a team of professionals dedicated to their personal health and wellness. This includes having a well-trained and versatile massage team available to provide regular treatments, whether preventative, or to address ongoing issues. Ocean Yoga therapists are certified and trained in the latest up to date modalities. We offer a wide range of treatment options including Swedish, Sport Massage, Deep Tissue, Zen Shiatsu, Hot Stone, and Prenatal massage.

Our intention is to provide our students and members of the community with the opportunity to receive massage as part of their on-going health and wellness plan.

For acute or on-going issues- take advantage of shorter, more affordable sessions on a more frequent basis (i.e. 30 minute session one to two times per week). For regular maintenance, we recommend no less than a monthly massage.

We offer massage treatments at an affordable rate, with our membership program designed to allow clients to receive massage treatments on a regular basis.

Prenatal and Postnatal Massage: Good for mom and baby

Pregnancy is a very unique time in a woman's life.  A beautiful way to honor this time the home of your growing baby, is a therapeutic massage.  Prenatal massage benefits both mother and baby in a myriad of ways.

Studies indicate that massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health.

Massage therapy addresses different needs through varying techniques, one of which is called Swedish Massage, which aims to relax muscle tension and improve lymphatic and blood circulation through mild pressure applied to the muscle groups of the body. Swedish Massage is the recommended prenatal massage method during pregnancy because it addresses many common discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts during pregnancy. In addition, studies have shown improvements in hormone regulation, reduction in swelling and improvement in nerve pain through regular prenatal massage.  Your body is a temple for you and your baby.  A monthly prenatal massage can make a world of difference.

Postnatal massage offers many of the same benefits; increased relaxation, decreased stress, hormone regulation, improved sleep, pain relief, decreased swelling and an added bonus: improved breast feeding.

Crinial Sacral Therapy

Few structures have as much influence over the body’s ability to function properly as the brain and spinal cord that make up the central nervous system. And, the central nervous system is heavily influenced by the craniosacral system – the membranes and fluid that surround, protect and nourish the brain and spinal cord.

Every day your body endures stresses and strains that it must work to compensate for. Unfortunately, these changes often cause body tissues to tighten and distort the craniosacral system. These distortions can then cause tension to form around the brain and spinal cord resulting in restrictions. This can create a barrier to the healthy performance of the central nervous system, and potentially every other system it interacts with.

Fortunately, such restrictions can be detected and corrected using simple methods of touch. With a light touch, the CST practitioner uses his or her hands to evaluate the craniosacral system by gently feeling various locations of the body to test for the ease of motion and rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid pulsing around the brain and spinal cord. Soft-touch techniques are then used to release restrictions in any tissues influencing the craniosacral system.

By normalizing the environment around the brain and spinal cord and enhancing the body’s ability to self-correct, CranioSacral Therapy is able to alleviate a wide variety of dysfunctions, from chronic pain and sports injuries to stroke and neurological impairment.

Thai Yoga Therapy & Massage

Thai Yoga Massage

Traditional Thai Massage, also called 'Nuat Boran' or Thai Yoga Massage is a branch of Traditional Thai Medicine.

Thai Yoga Massage is based on the concept that there is an intrinsic life force, or energy, prana (Sanskrit), chi (Chinese), that travels throughout the body along 72,000 pathways called 'sen' or 'nadis'. The pranic network permeates the body of any living being and vibrates in response to physiological, psychological, and spiritual experiences.

Thai Yoga Massage focuses on working the ten main energy lines to allow this energy or Prana to circulate freely. When energy is flowing freely along these channels, we feel energized, relaxed and healthy. If there is an energy imbalance, the body's harmony is disrupted, manifesting as pain and disease.

Traditionally Thai Yoga Massage is performed on a cushioned mat on the floor, with the receiver wearing comfortable clothing that allows for a wide range of movement and flexibility. It includes an amazing synthesis of many different techniques, among them acupressure, assisted yoga stretches, Reflexology, rhythmic compression, gentle rocking, and meditation.

Each massage session is tailored to the client's needs and focuses on the physical and energetic needs of each individual.

The practitioner uses her body weight as leverage and applies it using her thumbs, fingers, palms, forearms, elbows, knees and feet. This "opening" increases joint mobility and flexibility, improves circulation, tonifies organs, and relieves muscular and emotional tension.

To give and to receive Thai Massage is a meditative practice. The massage is given in silence to allow more room for awareness and mindfulness to evolve, thus providing a deepening of the experience for both, the receiver and the practitioner. With the therapist using a mindful and meditative rhythm, Thai Yoga Massage looks and feels like a graceful dance between giver and receiver. At the end of a session, both the receiver and the practitioner will feel relaxed and energized.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

Zen Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a deep, invigorating, style of massage developed over millennia and brought to western shores in the 20th Century. "Shiatsu" literally means "finger pressure." Similar to acupressure, shiatsu harmonizes the body’s energy by applying thumb and palm pressure to 14 major energy channels (meridians). Shiatsu promotes self-healing, provides long-lasting stress relief and relaxation, and restores the body’s energy to its natural state of homeostasis.

A typical Shiatsu session is both relaxing and energizing as the therapist employs pressure while moving about the body in a rhythmic, flowing sequence. All major muscle groups are stretched and all joints in the body are mobilized, restoring energetic harmony and a sense of bodily awareness.
